The King of Staten Island: Worth Watching?

An American drama-comedy directed by Judd Apatow, The King of Staten Island was said to be 2020’s biggest comedy starring Bel Powley, Bill Burr, Marisa Tomei, Maude Apatow, Pete Davidson, and Steve Buscemi. The movie was released digitally by Universal Pictures on Video on Demand on June 12, 2020.

The movie revolves around Scott, a 24 years old high school dropout with high hopes of becoming a tattoo artist, who lives with his mother and younger sister. Scott’s father was a firefighter who died on duty. It’s pretty safe to say that Scott has a lot of issues and has a tough time getting a grip on his life.

Things get even more complicated for him when his mother who hadn’t dated since the death of his father starts dating a man who is a firefighter as well. The plot of the movie is very similar to Davidson’s life whose father, also a firefighter, passed away in the 9/11 incident.

The movie has received praise from viewers, mainly for Apatow and Davidson’s performances. The film is raw and candid; it doesn’t pretend to be something it isn’t. It speaks out to young adults who are confused and are trying to find the right path.

The presentation is simple and well-choreographed and the cast has justified their characters. The movie has been highly recommended by critics and has received pretty impressive ratings. If you haven’t already watched it, it is definitely worth watching.
