The Wait is Over: Major League Baseball is Back
Major League Baseball is set to resume this July, the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) announced in an official press release on Tuesday. The season is estimated to begin either on July 23 or July 24.
Rob Manfred, the league commissioner, said, “Major League Baseball is thrilled to announce that the 2020 season is on the horizon. We have provided the Players Association with a schedule to play 60 games and are excited to provide our great fans with Baseball again soon."
MLB Players Association has agreed on the health and safety protocols to be followed in the wake of COVID-19. The health of the players and the staff will be the highest priority during the season. MLB has collaborated with various health authorities to ensure the players’ and staffs safety amidst the pandemic.
Safety First
Players are expected to report to their training camps on July 1. On arrival, all players, along with the support staff, will be tested’. They will also be tested for the virus on alternate days while at training camps, during the season, and postseason. Players testing positive will be quarantined. Players’ temperature and symptoms of the virus will be checked at least twice a day.
A 60-game regular-season was submitted for review by MLB to the MLBPA. After weeks of negotiation, the decision to start the season was drawn from a unanimous vote from MLB owners on Monday.
