Ren & Stimpy Show Reboot
Ready to be reunited with two of your childhood frenemies?
Comedy Central has given its nod to a reboot of the Emmy-nominated ‘The Ren & Stimpy Show.’ under a new creative team.
Happy, happy, joy, joy indeed.
“We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio,” said Chris McCarthy, President of ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group, in a statement released to Fox News.
25 Years In The Making
The original ‘Ren & Stimpy’ followed the adventures of Ren, an emotionally unstable chihuahua, and Stimpy, a kind-hearted cat with a scattered brain.
According to Deadline, the original John Kricfalusi series aired for a total of five seasons on Nick, from 1991 to December 1995.
Even though it was released with other kid-friendly animated series like ‘Rugrats’ and ‘Doug,’ Ren & Stimpy was considered more of an adult series, thanks to its dark themes and humour. Its off-putting animation and out-of-the-box storylines made it stand out from the other shows on the network at the time.
Having a new creative team working on the concept would appear to be the best choice in reviving the show. After all, the original creator has been accused of sexual harassment, possession of child pornography, and even statutory rape in a report by Buzzfeed News.
Kricfalusi denied the accusations at the time, but the iconic dog and cat duo Ren & Stimpy deserve a fresh restart. After all, the two have solidified their places in almost every ranking of the world’s top animated characters of all time.

“I want to thank our partners at Nick Animation as we re-imagine these iconic characters with a new creative team,” said Nina Diaz, president of content for ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group.
Joining The Ranks
Comedy Central has been developing a slate or animated originals around ‘South Park.’ Hence, the reimagined Ren & Stimpy will join revived versions of ‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ and ‘Clone High,’ as well as ‘Daria’ spinoff ‘Jodie.’
“Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation...as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.”
