Liverpool's Breakthrough Win: How is the World Celebrating?

The 30-year drought has finally come to an end. Liverpool has clinched its historic league title, and not even a global pandemic could have stopped them.

The Reds had the Premier League trophy in the bag way before their 4-0 annihilation of Leicester City on Boxing Day. Man City losing 2-1 against Chelsea simply sealed the legacy.

The team went on to win 26 of its 27 league games from August to February, and it became increasingly clear that Liverpool was marching up to that trophy with no obstacles in sight.

As soon as the final whistle blew, LFC supporters crowded the streets of Merseyside and gathered for a spine-tingling rendition of the anthem, as documented by Liverpool Echo.

Klopp Looks Forward to Liverpool Future

“I am not the guy who is going to shout: ‘We are going to conquer the world!”

These were Jürgen Klopp’s exact words at his unveiling as Liverpool’s new manager. Five years later, Klopp took the phrase ‘show, don’t tell’ and gave it a whole new meaning. Fueled by his own ‘Project Restart,’ the 53-year-old led LFC to finally becoming champions of England.

Still, this doesn’t mean ‘The Normal One’ is ready to rest.

In a statement released to The Guardian, Klopp looked back at everything Liverpool has done as he looked forward to doing more.

“I’ve had good parts in my career but not this good. It is difficult to get here and it is all about the boys’ commitment, desire and understanding of the club’s heart and soul. The consistency the boys have showed (sic) is exceptional. We will not stop.”

Liverpool Fans Urged to Celebrate from Home

Like Klopp, hordes of Liverpool fans across the globe are on top of the world. This has prompted authorities to remind the public that we are still very much in the midst of a dangerous pandemic.

For one, Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson was jubilant about the league title returning to his hometown. His enthusiasm soon turned to worry though, as mass gatherings meant to celebrate LFC’s title proved near-impossible to control.

In a tweet, Anderson urged fans to celebrate at home.
