Robert Lewandowski’s 88th-minute goal in Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory against Lyon is nothing short of poetic.

Aside from sweetening the win to a 3-0 outing over the gritty underdogs of Lyon, the textbook goal solidified the Bayern forward’s claim as one of his generation’s finest, right after the Germans’ 8-2 thrashing of Messi’s Barcelona last week.

It was the perfect redemption for having missed an easy one at the 33rd minute, which paved the way for Serge Gnabry’s second strike of the game.

That classic striker was all Lewandowski needed to bag the following staggering records, as enumerated by Give Me Sport:

• 55 goals in just 46 outings across all of this season’s contests
• Goal-per-game ratio of 1:2

That last one is extra special for the two, as it saw them fly past the dynamic duo of Ronaldo and Bale, who combined for an already-mind blowing 23 times during their ‘13-’14 Champions League bid.

As a team, the Pole’s side has a chance to make it bigger than Real Madrid, as Goal pointed out that the German side became only the fourth team in Champions League history to cross the 40-goal line in one competition.

World’s Best No. 9

Unfortunately, the Ballon d’Or has been cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. On the flip side, the World’s Best No. 9 can still take home The Best FIFA award.

After kicking off in 2016, The Best FIFA Men’s Player award has gone to Ronaldo twice, and to Messi and Luka Modric once each. 

A Bundesliga player has yet to bag the prestigious award, and it’s about time one does, with the way Lewandowski is playing.

If there’s anything we know about the Pole, though, it’s that he doesn’t care all that much for individual recognition.
“What I try to do is to always show the best of myself, win trophies and score more goals,” he told France Football earlier. But that’s something that comes with collective trophies.
