The Greek Freak continues to amaze as he bagged the 2019-2020 Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year award.

According to nba.com, this is Giannis Antetokounmpo’s first KDPoY award after finishing as a runner up for the recognition last season.

The 6’11” forward is only the fifth player in NBA history to clinch both the NBA Defensive Player of Year award and the NBA MVP plum in a career. He joins the prestigious list previously exclusive to Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, and Kevin Garnett.

Giannis led the Milwaukee Bucks to the league’s best defensive outing so far, allowing only 96.5 points per 100 possessions when he’s on court.

Antetokounmpo must feel like he’s on top of the world right now. However, a few minutes before he learned of this impressive feat, his heart had dropped to his stomach.

Not Your Usual Locker Room Talk

Right after the Bucks’ 15-point win over the Magic, coach Mike Budenholzer called on his men to congregate in the locker room.

“Usually when Coach wants to talk to us after a game, somebody messed up or somebody did something,” Antetokounmpo told ESPN. “So in my head, I’m like, ‘OK.’ I’m looking around like, ‘Who did something?’ Because I know I didn’t do nothing.”

He’s a defensive player, all right.

However, Budenholzer then jumped on the table and delivered news of Antetokounmpo’s achievement, much to the players’ and coaches’ delight.

‘I Can Do Better’

CBS Sports compiled some of the best reactions to No. 34’s amazing news, and most of them were supportive and celebratory. Even Shaq tipped his hat off to Antetokounmpo.

Still, the Greek Freak says we have not seen his best just yet, although he admitted that he went all out in defense this year.
"Obviously, I think I can get way better. I can be more active. I can block more shots. I can be in the passing lanes more," he said. "But going back again, having the best defensive team in the NBA, making your team being the best defensive year, I think it's been my best year, but you can always get better. You can always improve."
