Eminem, Kid Cudi Spark Heated Debate in New Song
Here’s a rough list of people who might not be too thrilled to hear Kid Cudi and Eminem’s new single:
- Drew Bees
- Lil Wayne
- Snoop Dogg
- Anyone in Trump’s Government
- People who don’t wear face masks in public
- All police officers, really
‘The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady’ may only be four minutes, 25 seconds long, but it touches upon myriad of social issues that could ruffle thousands of feathers.
Well, that’s just Slim Shady for you.
Slim Shady’s Laundry List
CNN pointed out that Eminem is blaming the worsening health pandemic on two things: an incompetent government and people who refuse to wear a mask.
Bunch of half-wits up in office
Half of us walking around like a zombie apocalypse
Other half are just pissed off and
Don’t wanna wear a mask and they’re just scoffing
Now I’m in a fucking casket from you coughin’
The rapper also took a dig at New Orleans quarterback Drew Bees, who recently made headlines after insinuated that anyone who takes a knee during the National Anthem is “disrespecting the flag.”
I had hoop dreams, now I shoot threes (What?)
Got a lil’ green (Yeah), but I don’t do weed (Nope)
Purp nor lean (Nah), that’s Tunechi (Yeah)
That’s New Orleans (What?), fuck Drew Bees (Yeah)
Eminem closes his verse by painting graphic imagery of George Floyd’s death, thereby joining a loud chorus of voices against police brutality in the West.
Prayers to George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery (Yeah)
How the fuck is it that so many cops are dirty? (Huh?)
Stop, man, please, officer, I’m sorry
But I can’t breathe when I got you on top of me
Your goddamn knee’s on my carotid artery (Fuck)
What About Kid Cudi?
The genius of this drum- and bass-heavy track lies in its seamless flow. You could hardly notice that Kid Cudi’s verse does not have the same message, vibe, or emotion as the rest of the track.
I'm swimming in the light right
Go and get you some, go and show 'em something, this a new thang
Yeah, I let my nuts hang (Yeah)
Knock your top off with LeBron or Dwyane Wade (Yeah)
Aww, lift off
Can't stunt a nigga growth, better get gone, move along (Uh)
You don't wanna trip, wanna get it on (Uh)
Not much political commentary around here, but incredible sound engineering made it mesh well with Eminem’s highly-critical verse.
Finally, the track already has an animated lyric video, which could only be described as a treat. Check it out right here:
