Weekly NBA Wrap: 12 August 2020
What a jammed packed week in the NBA! We had beef between players, injuries, game-winners and a tampering fine. As we head into the playoffs, there is still one question that needs to be answered….
Which team will capture the 8th seed in the Western Conference?
The Trailblazers, Suns, Grizzlies and Spurs all still have a mathematical chance of making it to the playoffs. As we watch in anticipation, a few other stories are doing the rounds in the NBA world.
Here’s your Weekly NBA Wrap.
7-0
Only one team remains unbeaten in the NBA bubble and that team is the Phoenix Suns. After taking care of an undermanned Philadelphia 76ers team, the Suns moved to a league best 7-0 record. Coming into the NBA restart, the Suns were seen as the team making up the numbers with literally no chance of making the playoffs.
The Suns have been led by Devin Booker who is on his own scoring streak, averaging over 30 points in the seven games played. Booker seems to also be getting buckets off the court, getting into an instagram exchange with Kendall Jenner about.....strawberries?
Simmons Leaves The Bubble
One of the most fascinating stories entering the restart was that of the Philadelphia 76ers and the move of Ben Simmons to PF. Sadly, we only got to see this experiment last for about 3 games due to Simmons injuring his knee against the Washington Wizards. Simmons has since left the bubble to have surgery on his knee.
The media didn’t waste long in moving from injury to trade rumours. Apparently, the team to watch is Cleveland as they have been reported to have an arsenal of assets ready to make a play for the 24-year-old 76er.

Draymond Fined Again
Draymond has a knack for getting fined by the NBA. Whether it be on the court or off the court - the Golden State Warrior definitely knows how to push the boundaries.
While he was on TNT’s Inside the NBA, he had some strong views on Devin Booker, "It's great to see Book playing well and Phoenix playing well, but get my man out of Phoenix."
It didn’t take long for the NBA to fine Draymond $50,000 for his comments. Luckily for Draymond, that amount shouldn’t be too much of an issue as he recently signed a $100 million 4 year contract extension.

Lillard Vs. Clippers
Everyone loves a little bit of drama and the game between the Clippers and Portland did not disappoint. Portland lost the game after Damian Lillard missed two key free throws down the stretch. The LA bench did not hold back with their celebrations, with Patrick Beverley appearing to mock Lillard.
Lillard responded in his post-game interview:
The drama then continued onto social media where Paul George shared his thoughts:
Whose side are you taking?
Steph Nails Embiid Impression
Joel Embiid recently released his own signature shoe with Under Armour. The shoe is described as being “powerful enough for a big man, light enough for a guard, and quick enough to run the court.”
Steph Curry welcomed Embiid to the Under Armour signature shoe family by congratulating him on social media. He also included a video where he imitated a classic Embiid move….and he absoutely nailed it!
Just a Casual Milli
Kevin Durant has not played a single minute this year for the Brooklyn Nets. However, that has not stopped him from adding to his already healthy bank balance. Durant earned a bonus of $1 million this week because the Brooklyn Nets secured their spot in the playoffs.
Oh yeah, that is on top of the $37.2 million he already made this year.
Well played KD, well played.
